for everyone
Talk about a rude awakening! I got up early yesterday for one purpose and one purpose alone, which was to verify if I had a check at the check releasing center. Since two months had gone by since the last time I received a check of a substantial amount, I figured that there would be something more than the petty cash I'd been getting every week of January. Much to my dismay, the checks for those jobs were but wishful thinking. That meant that this week would be like the past three or four weeks or so - a subsistence. I turned on the television to help ease my mind a bit, so that I might figure out how the hell I would make my remaining P700. 00 last 'til God knows when. I'd never sell my soul... but, maybe I could put my body on the line. Thing is, I've never gone beyond P250. 00 all the way; and, while I could always settle for load, it wouldn't be good enough to put food on the table. Enter the testimony of Jun Lozada before the Senate. When Chiz Escudero took his turn to question Lozada, he made my day!
Escudero: I believe that, sometimes, it takes a thief to catch a thief. So, despite the smudges on your record, I believe it doesn't necessarily mean you are lying.
Lozada: Oo nga, sir, but there are different levels of thieves... Just like in basketball, there are there are different leagues.
Escudero: Kung baga yung mga boss mo nasa NBA, ikaw, pang barangay lang.

Etc, etc, etc

Escudero: Ika nga nila about the deal, nung nagawaan na ng paraan na utangin nalang ng gobyerno ang pera, the newspapers were quoted as saying that "GMA showed up in China, signed the contract, and disappeared like a THIEF IN THE NIGHT."

Thief in the Night! Hahaha! Had Escudero mistakenly been talking about someone else besides GMA? I asked myself. Was he perhaps referring to someone I know too well? The description just matches. In that light, let me share with you a poem I wrote about that person. I call this one...

BLACK THING

You come in an out of the house
Like a "THIEF IN THE NIGHT"
You say you're in a retreat in Tagaytay
But really you're just out gallavanting
With that goat.
But you're a piece of work yourself,
you filthy little beast
You're so bad you make the devil look good
You'd actually put a regular demon to shame
And give Satan himself a run for his money
All you do is lie, cheat, steal, and
surreptitiously whisper pernicious thoughts like Wormtongue
Thing is, you're not even a good liar
And you're such a traitor you end up betraying even yourself.

The greedy little parasite you are
You have to sneakily take all the food in the fridge,
Bring it to work and pronounce to your officemates
That you can "make lasagna from scratch"
What a sociopath you are!
You can't even wash the dishes you bitch
What more cook!?

To make things worse you brought your seed into this world
Using him like a Super Trump,
As leverage to have your way with everyone
And to make up for your not being there
For all your shortcomings as a mother
You put on this act in front of others
That you're reinforcing their values
But when the doors to your room close
You pour poison into his ears, corrupting his mind
"Don't listen to them," you say
"They're wrong," you say
That's how you compensate
For all those times you said you were out on business
But gallavanting with your new goat
Who is a good goat but a poor one
Because he is in love with you and doesn't know better
He believes all your lies
Oh, if only he knew about all your dark deeds
If only he knew about that time you said something cost 30k
But in reality didn't even go beyond 15k

I pity you, Princess of Darkness
For you were raised the wrong way
Always allowed to get away with anything
This you knew
And boy did you abuse this power!

You... you... you Black Thing, you!
Down to the smallest of things,
You have to be such a Black Thing
Even later on, when you had the chance to do what was right
And diffuse their pride and anger
You riled them even further

I feel sorry for you, you Black Thing, you!
Once a Black Thing always a Black Thing
When the monster you created no longer needs you
He will be the death of you
By the time you realize that though
It will be too late
For that's how the wheel of karma turns
And that's how Hell's fire burns.

This ends with the following lines, sang ala Black Dog by Led Zeppelin:

Black thing, black thing, black thing, black thing....
